What does a monthly car lease payment cover in Cyprus?
A monthly car lease payment usually covers the use of a vehicle for an agreed period, along with the services included in your package. Insurance and servicing are common inclusions. Depending on the provider and agreement, road tax, tyres, roadside assistance and a replacement car may also be covered.
If you’re just settling into life in Cyprus, having these arrangements covered under one agreement can make the first few months easier. There are fewer separate bills to manage, and you have a clearer idea of what you’ll spend on the car. However, two leasing offers with the same monthly price can come with very different levels of cover.
We’ll look at what a typical car lease in Cyprus includes and which additional benefits leasing providers most commonly offer.
Start with the car, the contract and the kilometres
With an operating lease, the monthly payment depends mainly on the car, the length of the agreement and the kilometre allowance, as well as the services included. A financial lease works differently and may offer a route to ownership, so check which type of agreement you’re being offered.
The kilometre allowance is one of the first things to check when reviewing a contract. To give you an idea of what to expect in Cyprus, we compared leasing offers from 25 providers.
The most common allowances in the offers we reviewed were 1,500 kilometres a month, 2,000 kilometres a month and 20,000 kilometres a year. An allowance of 2,000 kilometres a month adds up to 24,000 kilometres over a full year, although the contract determines how the limit is measured.
That 24,000-kilometre annual allowance was at the higher end of the offers we reviewed, with the average falling around 18,000–20,000 kilometres a year. Use these figures as a reference when estimating your commute and other regular journeys. If you’re unsure whether the allowance will be enough, ask about the rate for additional kilometres and whether you can adjust your mileage package later.
What other services can a lease include?
The car itself and the kilometre allowance are major cost factors. But the services included in the agreement can make a difference too. Depending on the package, they can save you the time and effort of arranging certain aspects of car ownership yourself.
We compared the services advertised by 25 leasing providers in Cyprus to see which are commonly included in their packages and which are harder to find.
The table below shows how frequently each service appears in the offers we reviewed, with the most common features at the top. We'll then look at what each service covers and how much it could cost to arrange separately.

Some categories overlap. For example, comprehensive insurance is also counted under the broader insurance category. The third-party insurance figure reflects only providers that explicitly mention this cover in their published packages. The lower percentage doesn't necessarily mean that other providers' vehicles lack third-party insurance.
What’s included in a lease and how much these services cost on their own
To understand the value of these services, it helps to look at what each one covers and how much you might pay to arrange it separately.
Insurance and the level of cover
When a leasing provider says insurance is included, it's worth checking exactly what level of cover you're getting. Third-party insurance covers your liability towards others under the policy, while comprehensive insurance also protects your own vehicle against certain risks, subject to exclusions.
To give you an idea of what insurance costs separately, DigiCare's published examples from September 2026 showed annual premiums of €183–€341 for third-party cover and €333–€587 for comprehensive cover. That's roughly €15–€49 a month you could otherwise spend on a separate policy if insurance wasn't included in your lease.
Servicing and routine maintenance
This usually covers scheduled maintenance, including oil and filter changes and other checks recommended for the vehicle.
To give you an idea of local costs, Cyprus Call-Out Mechanic advertises an oil and filter change from €70 and a full service from €125. These are starting prices, and the final cost depends on the car and the work required.
If you’re buying a car, how much you drive will also affect your maintenance budget. Covering hundreds of kilometres a day could mean needing more than one service a year.
When reviewing a leasing contract, check who arranges servicing, where the work is carried out and whether parts, fluids and labour are all included.
Road tax
Many leasing providers include road tax in their packages. When reviewing an offer, check whether the provider also handles renewals and supplies the necessary documents.
If you own a car, the amount you pay depends on the vehicle. For example, the lower CO₂ bands in the Road Transport Department’s published schedule give a base charge of €60 a year for a car emitting 120 g/km, or €5 a month. The final amount may vary depending on the vehicle’s registration history and any applicable emissions charges.
If you’re comparing leasing with buying, use the actual road tax figure for the car you’re considering.
A temporary replacement vehicle
Some leasing packages include a replacement car to keep you on the road while your vehicle is being serviced or repaired. Whether you qualify for one depends on the reason your car is unavailable, how long the work takes and whether a replacement vehicle is available.
If you own a car and need a temporary replacement, short-term rental is one option. For example, MAS Cars advertises small-car rentals from €37 a day, excluding VAT and seasonal charges. With 19% VAT added, that's approximately €44 a day, or €132 for three days, before any seasonal charges or extras.
When comparing leasing offers, check when you're entitled to a replacement car, how long you can keep it and whether it will be a similar size to your usual vehicle.
Roadside and breakdown assistance
Roadside assistance can cover problems such as a flat battery, a breakdown that leaves your car undriveable or recovery to a garage. The number of call-outs, recovery distance and geographical coverage can vary between providers.
If you're arranging roadside assistance yourself, ODYKY's Gold membership is one example. It costs €90 a year, or €7.50 a month, and includes one local and one nationwide call-out, subject to exclusions.
If you own a car, check whether your motor insurance already includes roadside assistance before adding a separate membership to your budget.
Tyre maintenance or replacement
Tyre cover can include routine maintenance and replacement when the tyres become worn. When reviewing a leasing offer, check how often tyres can be replaced, which brands are included and whether the package covers punctures or accidental sidewall damage.
If you're buying a car, tyre replacement is another cost to budget for. For example, Attom Fit advertises Michelin Primacy 5 tyres in size 205/55 R16 at €127.44 per tyre, including fitting, balancing, disposal and VAT. A full set of four would cost around €510.
The actual cost and how often you'll need new tyres will depend on your car, the tyres you choose and how much you drive. Use this figure as a reference when estimating your maintenance budget.
Mechanical and wear-related repairs
Repair cover goes beyond routine servicing, although what's included varies between leasing providers. Check whether the contract covers mechanical failures, worn parts and the labour needed to replace them. Damage caused by misuse may be excluded.
If you own a car, repair costs can add up depending on the work required. For example, Cyprus Call-Out Mechanic's published prices start at €120 per axle for brake pad replacement and €240 per axle for replacing both brake discs and pads, including parts.
Dedicated support and 24/7 assistance
Dedicated support gives you a contact for questions, appointments and problems with the agreement. Some providers also offer 24/7 assistance, so you can get help outside normal working hours.
The main benefit of round-the-clock support is having someone available to help you work out what to do next if something goes wrong with your car.
Changing vehicles during the agreement or at the end
Some leasing providers allow you to switch vehicles during the contract, which can be useful if you need a larger car or your circumstances change. Others offer the option to upgrade at the end of the agreement, returning your current car and taking out a new lease.
Compared with owning a car, this benefit is mainly about convenience. When your lease ends, you can return the vehicle to the provider and arrange a new agreement for a newer or higher-spec model. This saves you the time and effort of advertising your car, arranging viewings, negotiating with potential buyers and handling the paperwork involved in transferring ownership.
Accident and insurance claim management
Some leasing providers help you handle accidents and insurance claims, from reporting an incident and contacting the insurer to arranging repairs. Check which parts of the process the provider takes care of and what you'll need to handle yourself.
If you own a car and arrange insurance separately, your policy may already include some of this support. For example, Ypera includes accident care in its motor insurance packages.
MOT and roadworthiness inspection fees
Some leasing packages cover the cost of mandatory roadworthiness inspections. Check whether the provider also arranges the appointment and who pays for any repairs needed if the car fails the test.
If you own a car, you'll need to budget for these inspections yourself. For example, C.A. Mamais's MOT FAQ gives a total cost of €35, including a €30 inspection fee and €5 in government fees. Use this as a reference and check the current price for your vehicle.
Keep in mind that the inspection fee and any repairs required to pass the test are separate costs.
The total cost and additional possible benefits
Adding up the costs of the services we've covered gives an estimated annual budget of around €1,130 if you were arranging them yourself.

Keep in mind that leasing providers offer different combinations of services. None of the providers we reviewed included every service listed above in a single package.
Looking strictly at costs, buying works out cheaper than leasing. In our recent Kia Picanto comparison, the monthly lease payment was €332. Even if we deduct around €60 a month to account for the main services included in the package, that leaves €272 a month, or €13,056 over four years. By comparison, the estimated cost of buying the same car over four years, accounting for depreciation and resale, was €10,700.
However, cost is only part of the decision. With leasing, you're also paying for convenience. Depending on your package, if something goes wrong with your car, you may have access to 24/7 support that can arrange roadside assistance, organise a replacement vehicle and help coordinate repairs covered by the agreement.
This can be especially useful when you've just arrived in Cyprus. Instead of arranging insurance, finding a reliable mechanic and managing servicing yourself, you can leave much of that work to the leasing provider. If you need help with the car, you also have someone to contact.
Whether that convenience is worth the extra cost depends on your circumstances. Some drivers are comfortable arranging maintenance and repairs themselves and would rather avoid paying for bundled services. For people who are planning to move to Cyprus or have only recently arrived, having these arrangements taken care of can make settling in considerably easier. There are already plenty of other things to organise when moving to a new country.
Find a leasing package that fits your needs
You may not need every service a leasing provider offers. For example, a replacement vehicle could be particularly useful if you rely on your car every day. A generous kilometre allowance may matter more if you regularly drive long distances. Before comparing offers, think about which services you would actually use and which you're comfortable arranging yourself.
Once you know what you're looking for, compare quotes from providers that offer those services. Make sure you're comparing similar cars, contract lengths and kilometre allowances, and check the upfront payments, VAT and any additional charges.
Cyprus Motors & Marine's leasing enquiry service can help you find a package that matches your needs. When submitting an enquiry, tell us what kind of car you're looking for, your budget, location and which additional services you'd like included.
We'll contact leasing providers across Cyprus to look for offers that match your requirements. Providers with suitable offers will then get in touch with you directly to discuss the available cars, included services and contract terms. This way, you can compare options that fit your circumstances without having to contact multiple leasing companies yourself.
